(June 15th) BUSKARAMA is a brand new Busker Festival that honors the amazing performing artists of the past, present, and future at Pike Place Market. For decades performers of all kinds have transformed street corners into stages, and have inspired millions of visitors from all over the world with their charisma and creativity.
Between 10 am and 5 pm dozens of licensed buskers will be performing throughout the day at 15 designated locations (see map). Some of these spots marked by red music notes are iconic, such as The Cave, under The Clock, and in front of Starbucks.
But as part of our challenge this year, we encourage buskers and music lovers to explore the hidden gems on Western Avenue and Post Alley to experience all that Pike Place Market has to offer.
In the evening BUSKARAMA will present a special showcase at The Rabbit Box, where we will celebrate the 50 years since Jim Page helped change the laws for street performers throughout the city. He will be joined by his longtime collaborator and friend Artis Spoonman, along with an array of troubadours that reflect the diversity and promise of our unique and storied busking community.
BUSKARAMA is not the first busking festival. The late Jim Hinde, and his pals Jim Page and Spoonman led a wonderful festival that fell silent with Hinde's passing in 2008.
The dream of BUSKARAMA is to shine a light on the Emerald City so bright that the world will see the stars on the brick road of Pike Place, and in doing so, great artists from around the globe will sign up for a busking license and join us, if only for a day.
