About this Event
The general argument is that transitioning to clean energy and a zero-carbon future is not
only an environmental necessity but also an economic opportunity. However, more work
is needed to support businesses in taking effective decarbonization actions. There is a
growing consensus within the business community that achieving net zero is a strategic
priority (2024 UK Net Zero Business Census). Businesses of all types are finding that
reaching net zero is a journey that involves understanding, planning, and
implementation. This is reflected in reports which show that despite high engagement,
progress toward net zero is varied. The journey to net zero is complex, requiring changes
in business practices, organizational structures, ecosystems, and technologies.
Moreover, there are clear indications that targeted support, and a stable policy
environment are critical for businesses to implement effective net-zero strategies.
The roundtable will explore various aspects of the business community's journey to net
zero. It will examine the policy, social, and economic contexts surrounding net zero and
draw on the experiences of businesses from the transport, construction, and agricultural
sectors. The discussion and workshop will culminate in a set of recommendations aimed
at supporting businesses in their transition to net zero.
Please note that while the venue may change, we will remain on the Gilmorehill Campus.
