Join us for an engaging Business & Brews fireside conversation featuring Abdul-Hakim Shabazz, Esq., one of Indiana’s most respected political commentators and legal minds.

Drawing on decades of experience as an attorney, journalist, broadcaster, and educator, Abdul-Hakim will explore the current state of American politics—from city halls and statehouses to Washington, D.C. Through the combined lenses of law, media, and civic leadership, he will examine how political incentives have shifted, how polarization has reshaped public discourse, and why state and local politics increasingly reflect national divisions.

The conversation will also address the erosion of institutional trust, the role of modern media, and what responsible leadership and engaged citizenship look like in today’s environment. Thoughtful, candid, and accessible, the discussion blends serious analysis with storytelling and humor—offering clarity without oversimplification.

About the Speaker:

Abdul-Hakim Shabazz is an attorney, journalist, political commentator, actor, and comedian based in Indiana. He is the editor and publisher of Indy Politics and has more than 30 years of experience covering law, government, and public affairs at the local, state, and national levels. Licensed to practice law in Indiana and Illinois, he brings a practitioner’s perspective to political analysis grounded in real-world experience.

A Columbia Club member since 2007, Abdul-Hakim served on the Club’s Board of Directors from 2013 to 2023—the longest-serving board member in the Club’s history. He has also taught mass media, business law, and political science at the University of Indianapolis since 2007.
