Burlingame Historic District Guided Walking Tour
Join the North Park Historical Society for an in-person guided walking tour led by retired architect Steve Fobes through the charming Burlingame Historic District with its unique architectural styles and curvilinear pink sidewalks. The tour is 1 mile and will last approximately 1.5 hours. Exteriors only.
COST: Free, any donation to the North Park Historical Society will be appreciated with cash onsite or Venmo. We are an all-volunteer 501 (c) (3) local non-profit.
LOCATION: Northwest corner of Kalmia Street and 32nd Street in San Diego, CA
Burlingame Historic District, “The Tract of Character,” located in the Greater North Park Community, is a quaint neighborhood with a collection of diverse homes built using the “Systems Firm” method, an experimental approach to real estate development utilizing a “team of specialists” to develop and market exclusive real estate property, during the period 1912 through 1952. Burlingame is historically significant based on its unique early 20th century development, architecture, site planning and special scale and character derived from the curvilinear street pattern that follows the area’s natural contours, in contrast with the surrounding area's grid development pattern and street layout. The neighborhood’s sidewalks remain rose-colored providing a unique character defining feature to the district. There is an eclectic mix of mostly pre World War I through early post-World War II suburban residential architecture, reflected in over 170 distinctive and interesting homes of various architectural styles which include: Mission Revival, Spanish Colonial Revival, Craftsman, Modern and several other styles.
