Rogaining is an orienteering sport of cross-country navigation, involving both route planning and navigation between checkpoints using an event map that is provided. In a Rogaine, teams of two to five people choose which checkpoints to visit within the time limit with the intent of maximising their score. Teamwork, endurance, competition and an appreciation for the natural environment are features of the sport. It can be competitive, it can be a laugh, it can be both. It’s what you make it to be. Our first Event is scheduled for Saturday 21st February commencing from Dripstone Secondary College in Tiwi. This provides the ideal location to place controls in the Burbs, the Bush and some at the Beach.
The Course area will probably be from Lee Point to Nightcliff, and all those Burby bits that adjoin our Coastal space.
The event will be using MapRun as a safety and scoring tool. MapRun uses Smart Phones for punching and timing. You also use your Garmin device if you don’t want to carry a phone.
There will be a 5 & 3 hour Foot events plus a 4-hour Bike event.
Maps are out from 1:00 pm.
