What you will learn
Get your hands on a Bunraku puppet- and become a puppeteer! This workshop will explore the 3 basic principles of puppetry- breath, fixed point and focus, using object manipulation. Once learned, we'll practice Bunraku- the Japanese 3-person operated puppet. Workshop participants will study the movement principles of Laban with their bodies before translating them into puppet characterisation.
I love teaching how to operate these extraordinary humanoid puppets in a fun, accessible and very playful way. This is a class for adults- because they deserve puppets too! No performance background required.

Jess Mabel Jones

I’m Jess.

I’ve been making multi-award-winning art for over 15 years. It’s taken place in theatres, in communities, on screen, in cabaret bars, on the street and at festivals, all over the world.

The majority of my time has been in disability arts; the rad scene of work made by Deaf, disabled, learning disabled, neurodivergent and autistic artists and contributors.

Since 2022, I’ve also been an Access Coordinator for HETV and film.

I’m Autistic and I have ADHD, was born and grown in Croydon and now live by the sea.
