Colorado business owners in the emerging hemp building industry will share their expertise at a free panel discussion about building with natural industrial hemp materials at Founded in FoCo (formerly FoCo Startup Week). Hemp+lime insulation, used for 30 years in Europe, has been certified in US building codes this year.
Hemp insulation is mold-proof, pest-proof, flame resistant and long-lasting. Hemp buildings can sequester up to 5 tons of carbon because plant matter is locked in the walls, giving a close-to-zero embodied carbon footprint for the building.
Two business owners, Phelan Dalton of The Hemp Building Company (Longmont) and Jeremy Stephen of Evolve Construction, who built a permitted hemp home in Steamboat Springs in 2017, will share their knowledge about the new industry. A homeowner who is building a hemp home in Drake will also be on hand.
