About this Event

From the Town Hall in Victoria Square to the Cathedral Square, this is one of three trails exploring the Building Stones of Birmingham. We will look beyond the architecture of Birmingham's amazing buildings and consider the huge variety of stones used in their construction, from local sources to distant continents. From the fossil remains of sea creatures, to ancient deserts, evidence of volcanoes and signs of tectonic earth movements, we will see how the stones that built the city provide a window into the deep history of the earth.

There are pdfs and a series of mobile-friendly web pages for each of the trails, including maps and additional photos. These can all be found by going to:

https://bcgs.info/pub/local-geology/building-stone-trails/

We meet at the Victoria Statue on Victoria Square. This is a free tour for a small group and there is likely to be a waiting list. If you find you have booked a ticket but can no longer attend, please cancel your ticket on Eventbrite. We will then give your place to someone else who would like to attend.

Regrettably this tour is not wheelchair accessible.
