About this Event
In this interactive workshop, facilitated by Karla Monterroso, we will explore the intersections of anti-Blackness and Latina identity, addressing the harmful impacts it has within our communities. Through open dialogue, personal reflection, and collective learning, participants will examine the historical and social roots of anti-Blackness and the steps we can take to foster true solidarity. By acknowledging and dismantling these internalized biases, we aim to empower our communities to contribute to broader movements for racial justice.
Tied to the San Jose State conference theme, "Empowering Democracy: Advancing Racial Justice and Equity in the 21st Century," this workshop emphasizes the importance of confronting internal dynamics that divide communities of color, ensuring that Latinas are active participants in building a more just and equitable democracy for all. Together, we will cultivate strategies for advancing racial equity by fostering unity and shared struggle across racial lines.

This event is part of San Jose State Unversity's event Transforming Communities: A Movement to Racial Justice. This annual event is designed to catalyze change in our community. SJSU seeks to bring together community, non-profits, organizations, schools, and businesses focused on creating a more racially just and equitable city and county. While we recognize that discrimination and injustice intersects with many identities, this movement centers race at the forefront of the conversation as we seek to ignite personal journeys, community conversations, and collective action to address racial justice.
