Building Counter-Institutions through Material Culture with Josh MacPhee

Join us for the opening reception of the Celebrate People’s History poster pop-up and learn more about the project from designer, artist, and archivist Josh MacPhee who has organized and curated the series since 1998.

As described on the Justseeds website: "The Celebrate People’s History posters are rooted in the do-it-yourself tradition of mass-produced and distributed political propaganda, but detourned to embody principles of democracy, inclusion, and group participation in the writing and interpretation of history."

In his talk, Building Counter-Instituions through Material Culture, Josh will discuss the evolution of the Celebrate People's History poster project and his work as a founding member of the Justseeds Artists’ Cooperative and Interference Archive, a public collection of cultural materials produced by social movements based in Brooklyn, NY.
