SESSION 1 — Building the Foundation: Understanding Race, Racism & BelongingCommunity members, parents, teens, educators, island workers, and elders are warmly invited to join us.
This first session of a four-part workshop series lays the groundwork for shared learning. Each session will explore key vocabulary, history, critical thinking, and group conversation, helping us build shared language and a safe, welcoming space for reflection and dialogue.
Session 1 is an invitation to listen, participate, ask questions, and explore what belonging can look like in our community.
These workshops grew from a desire to support inclusion and racial awareness on Gabriola, alongside conversations happening in BC schools, and to help bridge the gap between what many of us were taught growing up and what younger generations are learning today.
Please bring yourself, along with a notepad or journal for personal notes and reflections.
Coffee, tea, and snacks will be provided. If you feel up for it, you’re welcome to bring a snack to share—your presence is what matters most.
We’d love to see you and continue building a more inclusive community together.
