Our faith is a covenantal faith, not a creedal faith. We come together not because we believe the same things, but because we choose to act in ways that build our community while giving us each the space to explore the truth. Central to this covenantal faith is the Mission/Vision/Covenant which we wrote together and adopted in 2023. We honor and build on this tradition by holding an annual Covenanting Sunday where we read our Covenant and think about the promises we want to make to each other. This Sunday, the Sanctuary Choir will present selections from Beethoven’s Mass in C Major, Op. 86, including the moving “Kyrie” and “Benedictus”, joined by soloists Julia Jaffe, Thai Johnson, David Meharry, and Yunona Tabala. Yunona will also offer Mozart’s jubilant “Alleluia” from Exsultate, Jubilate, K. 165. For the centering music, Lynne Canavan (violin), Sara Wilkins (cello), and Rip Jackson (piano) will perform Jules Massenet’s exquisite “Méditation” from his opera Thaïs. The service will close with Johann Pachelbel’s radiant “Fuga in C Major”, performed by Rip on the church’s magnificent 1898 Hutchings 32-rank tracker organ.
