About this Event
Building a Foundation for Word Problem-Solving for Math Educators
Speaker: Diane Kue
Date: November 13, 2024
Time: 8:30am to 3:30pm
WHAT IT IS: When solving word problems, a desired impact as teachers is to teach
students how to reason so they successfully problem-solve in and out of the classroom. This session places pedagogy before strategies by identifying the concepts and application for quantitative reasoning. Educators will also engage in novel approaches to student-led tasks that will transform mathematical thinking with a focus on pedagogy and math literacy.
MATH EDUCATORS IN THIS WORKSHOP WILL:
· Identify the relationship between calculating and conceptualizing
· Explore the foundation for problem-solving and its application for success beyond the classroom
· Investigate the impact of math literacy
· Engage with student-led task examples that promote numeracy, reasoning,
and math literacy
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
· Mathematics Teachers
· Instructional Coaches and Specialists
· Mathematics Department Heads, Team Leads
