About this Event
This hands-on workshop focuses on pattern making fundamentals and helps you understand how 3D body forms translate into 2D flat patterns in a very visual, easy-to-understand way.
In this workshop, you’ll learn how to build a simple, highly versatile top pattern using just four basic measurements. This pattern becomes a powerful foundation you can reuse again and again to create a wide range of garments — from T-shirts and shirts to oversized sweatshirts, robes, and even simple jackets or coats.
This is one of my most-loved workshops, taught over the years in California and Portugal, because it gives students both practical results and a deeper understanding of how patterns work.
What you’ll learn:
- How body shapes (3D) translate into flat sewing patterns (2D)
- How to draft a basic top pattern using only four measurements
- How to understand pattern proportions and balance visually
- How to reuse and adapt one pattern for many different garments
- How these techniques apply to women’s, men’s, and children’s body types
What you’ll leave with:
- Your own custom top pattern, drafted to your measurements
- Written workshop notes to help you repeat the process at home
- A clear pattern-making method you can reuse for yourself or others
Workshop Details:
- Date: Wednesday, January 7
- Time: 6:00–8:30 PM
- Workshop fee: $85
- Materials fee: $10 (includes pattern-making paper and all tools)
All materials are provided — you don’t need to bring anything to this workshop.
This workshop focuses on pattern drafting and understanding structure. Sewing and fabric cutting will be covered in Part 2 (optional), offered separately.
Who this workshop is for:
- Beginners who want to understand patterns instead of just following them
- Sewists who want better fit and more confidence modifying patterns
- Anyone interested in learning foundational pattern-making skills
No prior pattern-making experience is required.
