About this Event

The workshop is on the historic ship, Balmoral. Teams or families make models of the Bristol Channel Pilot Cutter or The Mathew (carvel). These iconic vessels can be seen in the harbour and we shed a little bit of light on their history. Making the model follows the principles of shipbuilding. All parts, equipment and guidance are provided to make a strong watertight yacht in 2hrs. Arrive early or stay later for tours of the Balmoral. There is a bar and refreshments onboard and there may well be music.

We waterproof boats with an eco-resin if you leave them with us. The boats can all be entered into a race at the Harbour Festival. 1pm on 16th July. Boat kits can also be purchased and built at home. If you enter these boats into the race, we request that you use the materials we provide as they are all biodegradable. The race is a fun event with a big crowd get you name or your message across on your boat before it launches. All those who build a boat will be VIP guests on the Balmoral during the Bristol Harbour Festival.
