Unleash your child’s inner tech genius with this hands-on STEM adventure!
Campers will kick things off by building their very own BiT—a CircuitMess game controller—while diving into the fascinating world of circuits and components (no soldering required!).
Once the controller is complete, the fun really begins: they’ll explore the art of game development and game theory, playing preloaded games and discovering what makes them tick. From there, campers will level up to coding, starting with simple programs to control BiT and progressing to creating their own games like Rock, Paper, Scissors.
For those ready to take on a bigger challenge, advanced activities include designing graphics and programming more complex games.
This camp is perfect for sparking creativity, fostering critical thinking, and building confidence in the exciting fields of coding and electronics!
Notes
Students will be able to take home their BiT and a downloadable app will allow them to keep programming it.
Students will need to register an email address ahead of time for the coding program, and we will send out the link before the camp.
What you'll learn
The coding program is similar to Scratch and uses micropython. Students can code in blocks or language
Each game challenge requires some discussion of basic physics - velocity, mass, speed etc., and some mathematics
Students will learn about basic electronics - components and assembly.
The discussion of game design and theory will allow students to understand what goes into making games addictive and compelling while expanding on their language arts and mathematics skills.
Creating game ideas requires using art to design basic graphics and some design skills. Students will be able to explore their own creativity.
Class Format
Our camps are divided into blocks with breaks. We focus learning in the morning while everyone is fresh and encourage experimentation and project work in the afternoon.
There are breaks mid morning and mid afternoon as well as lunch.
