FREE EVENT! Belgium, Wisconsin is proud of its Luxembourgish roots and continued connections to the country of Luxembourg, and are thrilled to be bringing the European custom of Buergbrennen to the United States.In this custom, Luxembourgish villages gather together old Christmas trees, pallets, and brush, (the "Buerge") and use them to build a gigantic bonfire, in hopes of burning away winter and welcoming in spring. The fire is lit by the most recently married couple in the town, and the townspeople sip Glühwäin (mulled wine) as they watch the blaze.
While us Wisconsinites know how to enjoy winter, most of us are ready to kick Old Man Winter to the curb come March, so let's give it a go!
