Come on over to the War Memorial Building* in Balboa Park on Saturday, March 8th, and help us celebrate our 33rd anniversary as a dance club (membership not required). Doors open at 6:15pm and for a mere $12 you get a free Swing De-co lesson, a huge wood dance floor (3,150 sq. ft.) and two exciting bands!
Greg Benusa will teach a beginning-intermediate lesson from 6:30 to 7pm and The Blennies will take the stage at 7pm to begin our evening of dancing.
The Blennies bring a unique blend of blues and classic rock to the stage. In a short span, they have carved a niche for themselves, capturing the hearts of fans who appreciate their fresh and exciting take on these older music genres. The trio is poised to make waves with their blend of innovation and respect for tradition.
The second band is The Bobby Sanchez Combo. To quote Bart Mendoza of Beach and Bay Press, “Fans of 1950s-styled music won’t want to miss The Bobby Sanchez Combo. Billed as premium rockabilly…Sanchez's combo lives up to the tag with an authentic sound that also takes in R&B, country, and early rock 'n' roll. The groups’ impressive set list includes classics from the likes of Jerry Lee Lewis and Lloyd Price, as well as more modern bands like The Texas Tornados, adding up to a night out that’s perfect for swing dancers or music history buffs alike."
*The War Memorial Building is located at the north end of Balboa Park, at the corner of Park Blvd. and Zoo Drive. Plenty of free parking. Bottled water for sale or bring your own.
