About this Event

Ultrafast quantitative analysis of xenobiotics in complex samples by Solid Phase Microextraction (SPME) coupled to DART-MS: a perfect match to boost method performance.

The rapid and precise assessment of anthropogenic pollutants in the environment is imperative for regulatory compliance and understanding the environmental fate of these substances. Direct ambient mass spectrometry (AMS) techniques significantly enhance sample analysis speed, offer adaptability for on-site testing, and are commonly considered semi-quantitative in established protocols. This seminar discusses an effective approach to combine solid phase microextraction (SPME) with direct analysis in real-time (DART). Our methodology is tailored to target diverse classes of environmental pollutants, including PFAS, pesticides, and pharmaceuticals. We have developed specialized extraction methodologies to selectively extract and preconcentrate these substances prior to their direct introduction into mass spectrometry. The coupling of SPME and DART has led to decreased background contamination and exceptional accuracy and reproducibility in quantification, demonstrating the method's suitability in variable and less-than-ideal conditions.

Lunch will be provided.
