Brothers Lazaroff return to Joe's Cafe, again!
About this Event

Brothers Lazaroff return to Joe's Cafe for their first show since pre-pandemic! These guys have become Joe's regulars in the past few years. (You may recognize the photo as having been taken at Joe's.) Why are they back again? Because they are great! Maybe the best rhythm section around with Grover Stewart and Teddy Brookins holding it down, Mark Hochberg on violin, Sam Golden on keys and violin, and the brothers Jeff and David wail away up front with original pieces that soar, melt, think, harmonize and come together with grace and ferocity in equal measure.

These University City natives are family guys who play with spirit and inclusive vigor in the strange times we live in. They are a welcome relief with harmony and a family feel. For a few hours at Joe's Cafe while these guys play, the world is in unity. Come support a community feel while enjoying music that stands up anywhere in the world. This should be a lovely night to get out of rat race and into the groove. Let's enjoy what brings us together as people on this evening with Brothers Lazaroff!

Special guest DJ Boogieman (Andrew Warshauer) will be curating sounds before and during the live music.

BIOGRAPHY

Describing Brothers Lazaroff and the music they play is no easy task. Shapeshifting through endless configurations…4-7 piece Rock band, 8-11 piece Jazz band, World Music Orchestra, stripped-down roots combo…floating across genres playing their catalog of original songs with a family of some of St. Louis’ finest musicians.

As Daniel Hill, Music Editor at the Riverfront Times notes, ”Since 2009, David and Jeff Lazaroff have been writing and releasing some of the most interesting and eclectic music in the city, pulling from a wide range of inspirations — from americana to psych-rock to jazz to world music, and everything in between — to consistently bring energetic and memorable sounds to the streets of St. Louis.”

With annual, bi-annaul and monthly events at some of St. Louis’ most beloved music venues, Brothers Lazaroff can often be found rocking the Missouri Botanical Garden’s Whitaker Festival, playing a weekend at the esteemed Jazz At The Bistro, getting psychedelic at Joe’s Cafe, going acoustic at the Tower Grove Farmer’s Market, doing a late-night Americana set at Off Broadway and woodshedding new tunes for their loyal fans at the Tick Tock Tavern. It’s no hyperbole to say nobody does what Brothers Lazaroff do.

Some history...

Since the mid 90's, Jeff and David Lazaroff having been on a quest to soak up as many musical sources and inspirations as possible. Beginning with two acoustic guitars and songbooks of the great Folk, Rock, Country and Blues artists, the brothers look at musicology, songwriting and spirituality as a way of understanding life and creating meaning.

While David spent the first decade of the 2000’s living in Austin, TX, the two based out of the “Live Music Capital of the World” with Jeff frequently visting to record and play shows in the vibrant scene where roots music reigned supreme. At the same time the brothers would regularly travel to Chicago, IL to work in their cousin Stuart Rosenberg’s studio with his band of world-class Chicago musicians who shared stories of cutting their teeth with the likes of Muddy Waters, Curtis Mayfield, Willie Dixon, Ramsey Lewis and more. Those experiences in music industry towns helped shape the brothers’ art, as well as their work ethic and respect for the craft.

Officially reunited back in St. Louis since 2009, the brothers pull off their form of alchemy with Grover Stewart (drums), Teddy Brookins (bass), Mark Hochberg (violin/sound design), Sam Golden (keyboards/guitar/violin), Adam Hucke (trumpet/fluegelhorn), Ben Reece (saxophone/flute), Stuart Rosenberg (violin/mandocaster), Chris Hansen (percussion), James Stone Goodman (vocals/guitar) Andrew Warshauer (DJ), Paco Proano (sound design/art), Sam Ohlhausen (audio engineer), Jacob Detering (mixing/mastering) and JJ Campbell (graphic design).
