About this Event

We are excited to bring in Dan Hawkins of Bad Dogs Studio to teach the art of broom making. Dan will share the Shaker history for making brooms and the folklore around it. Each attendee will create their own beautiful Turkey-wing styled hand broom from sorghum and hemp cord. You'll learn wrapping techniques, hand-finishing and more.

All materials, plus Herbal mocktails and light snacks will be provided. This is a 21+ event.

About Dan—

I was born in Maine and have worked as an architect & carpenter in China, Denmark, England, and the United States. I make maps, utensils, furniture, buildings, and stories.

My recent work (2020-22) has explored coastal ownership and occupation in Maine, as well as informal fishing territories there, through generous support from the Andy Warhol Foundation. My work has been shown at the Danish Architecture Center (Copenhagen, 2013), London Design Festival (London, 2018) and the Seoul Biennale of Architecture and Urbanism (Seoul, 2019).

Dan works with his sister Rachel at their . They make functional objects from wood, clay, and plant materials. Their work explores rituals and habits within the home, as well as the craft traditions and techniques associated with those rituals.
