Brooklyn's (first) Black Maternal Health Awareness Walk

Join us on Friday, April 11, 2025, for Brooklyn’s First Black Maternal Health Awareness Walk, marking the start of National Black Maternal Health (BMH) Awareness Week (April 11-17).

This historic event is organized by the Neighborhood Technical Assistance Clinic (NTAC) in partnership with the Brooklyn Communities Collaborative (BCC), the Brooklyn Borough President’s Office, and the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership (DBP).

This walk is more than a moment—it’s a movement. Together, we connect the fight for maternal health equity with Brooklyn’s long-standing legacy of justice, resistance, and liberation. Your presence will help amplify awareness, inspire action, and build momentum for change.

AWARENESS WALK OVERVIEW:

(This is a drop-in event, so join at any point from 11A to 2PM.)

11AM-12PM: OPENING CEREMONY ON BOROUGH HALL STEPS

The day will begin on the steps of Brooklyn Borough Hall with powerful opening remarks from community leaders and advocates, spotlighting the urgent crisis of Black maternal health disparities.

12 - 12:30PM: WALK TO ABOLITIONIST PLACE

We will embark on a symbolic walk through Downtown Brooklyn, culminating at Abolitionist Place—a historic landmark once central to the abolitionist movement and the Underground Railroad.

12:30 - 2PM: NETWORKING & RESOURCE ACTIVATION ZONE

We’ll host a vibrant closing program featuring dynamic speakers, calls to action, and a Resource Activation Zone offering tools, services, and support for Black mothers, families, and the broader community.
