Brooklyn Lakeside Curling Club 2026-27 Fall Rookie League WEDS 2nd Sess.
About this Event
Rookie League is for those who have just started to play: you’ve watched it on TV; you’ve taken a Try Curling class recently or a while ago; or you’ve never curled at all. Rookie League offers all the benefits of the BLCC Leagues, plus a Try Curling refresher followed by weekly coaching for skills and strategy, conducted by BLCC Instructors. New curlers take to the ice weekly for 90 minutes of instruction and friendly games.
You may sign up as an individual or with your friends. Your ticket is good for one (1) single player (NOT a full team). If you would like to sign up as a team, each of your teammates must complete their own individual registration and each purchase a ticket.
Complimentary beer and water is provided for "broomstacking" after games.
Who can join: Rookie league is open to curlers of all experience levels, and is perfect if you've never curled before at all! And once you've completed a Rookie League you are eligible to join any other future BLCC leagues. All ages 21 and up, all genders, all everything else, are very welcome.
Setup and Takedown: BLCC is an all-volunteer club. Curlers will be required to be at the ice at the listed start time each week for sheet setup and ice prep which will allow us to have a timely start and insure that we get in our full 1.5 hours of game play.
Team Selection: If you have already formed a team, please make a note of your team members’ names in the "team notes" box when checking out. If you do not have a team, or have less than a full team, indicate so in the ‘team notes’ box when checking out. Be sure to include whether you have 1, 2, or 3 additional players, and indicate your number of years of curling. Note that your ticket is good for one (1) single player, so if you have teammates, they must each complete their own individual registration and purchase their own ticket. Players signing up without a team will be assigned to one after registration closes.
All player slots are first come first served, so if you want to make sure your whole team is signed up, have all your teammates sign up at the same time. Our events often sell out in a matter of days. Note that you must buy each ticket individually as we require each teammate's name and contact info.
League Dates:
Rookie League, Wednesday 2nd Session 8:00-10:20pm, November 18th, December 2nd, 9th, 16th.
Game Time: Games start promptly at 8:30PM. Please aim to arrive around 8:00 PM to ensure that you are changed and ready to play by 8:30PM. At 9:45PM, you will finish the end you have started. All games must end by 10:00PM sharp, NO EXCEPTIONS.
Equipment is taken off the ice and put in storage between 10pm-10:20pm. We have one hour to enjoy refreshments in the warm room or outside after our ice time - all curlers must be out of the warm room and off-site by 11:20pm.
League Format: Night 1 will be an introduction to the basics of curling followed by a short, coached game. Night 2 will build upon the skills and techniques learned on the first night followed by a coached game. Nights 3 and 4 will start with a short refresher of skills, rules, and/or techniques learned to date followed by full coached games.
Location: LeFrak Center at Lakeside, Prospect Park, 171 East Dr, Brooklyn NY 11225. Take the Q train to Parkside Av. or otherwise find your way to the Parkside and Ocean Avenue entrance to Prospect Park, enter the park and walk up the hill.
IMPORTANT: Pricing is $365 for league + $75 for mandatory annual insurance, plus dues for Grand National Curling Club (GNCC), United States Curling Association, (USCA) and Brooklyn Lakeside Curling Club (BLCC). If you go on to curl in another BLCC league this season, the $75 annual insurance & dues fee will not be added for any additional 2026-2027 league registrations. The USCA dues collected are for the overall club's membership, not for each player's individual membership. We encourage BLCC club members to sign up for an individual USCA membership to gain access to additional benefits and eligibility to attend USAC trainings and competitions.
REFUNDS : There are no refunds for league registrations.
Weather Cancellations: Because the Lakeside rink is only partially covered, we occasionally must cancel due to extreme weather conditions. If there is a weather cancellation, BLCC will make its best effort to extend the league season by one week on the same night and time to compensate. BLCC will not issue refunds for any league dates cancelled due to weather.
