Brooklyn Cinema Forum: Swept Away

One of the defining collaborations between director Lina Wertmüller and stars Giancarlo Giannini and Mariangela Melato, Swept Away follows a wealthy industrialist’s wife and a communist deckhand whose Mediterranean cruise takes an unexpected turn when they find themselves stranded together on a deserted island. What begins as a battle of class, power, and ideology evolves into one of the most provocative relationships in 1970s cinema.

This screening will be presented from Raro Video USA / Kino Lorber’s 2025 Blu-ray release, featuring a new 4K restoration from the original film negatives by the Fondazione Cineteca di Bologna.
