In “Mejor Allá,” first time filmmaker Danyeli Rodriguez del Orbe, who is best known for her literary body of work, seeks to explore how a yola journey changed the trajectory of the lives of herself and her family. “This yola ride that my father took… it had implications for the rest of us,” said Danyeli. “So many people in the DR have taken this route, but we don’t hear about it. It’s as though it’s insignificant in the conversation around immigration.”
Formatted as a cinematic poem full of texture and spirit, “Mejor Allá” isn’t just a poetry offering; it’s a sincerely poignant piece that poses a complex set of questions: what do migrants give up when they dare to dream beyond? What do they leave behind? Was it worth it for them? Would they do it again? Danyeli’s film pulls at threads that weave a very nuanced and difficult answer.
Feature Film: THIRD WEEK
Third Week is a social drama about second chances in life and the challenges they bring. The complexities of race relations are present, but it is not a story about race. At the heart of the narrative is Alvin’s human struggle in finding himself again after having spent two years in Pr*son. He is at a crossroads where past and present meet head on and offer him an opportunity for redemption. But Alvin’s disfunctional family will entangle him into a situation he would have rather avoided.
Third Week is a USA-Spain co-production shot in Staten Island, a socially and aesthetically marginalized neighborhood of New York City seldom represented on screen. Manhattan stands glimmering across the waters while Staten Island, strained and forgotten, echoing Alvin’s situation, searches for a second chance in the post-industrial era.

Entertainment. Education. Opportunity
Arthur Avenue Comedy's Fordham Stand-Up Monday's is where you go in the Bronx to hear top comics from TV and NYC's major clubs performing long sets on an intimate stage. Past performers include comedians from HBO, Netlfix, Colbert, SNL, the Daily Show, Letterman, the Tonight Show, Comedy Central, and more. Every week, Ben Asher's presents comedy that reaches up into your brain with the force of a fist through the nose.
Every Monday you can hear some of the most talented comics perform long sets, that other shows don't give them the time to perform. Arthur Avenue Comedy is your chance to get to really watch comedians flex their muscles and hit their stride on stage, at The Arthur Avenue Retail Market and Beer Hall, where you can eat a drink the most delicious craft food and beers on tap in the city.
