Broken Spines: A Weird Fiction Book Club in Cambridge

Join us on the fourth Tuesday of each month to delve into the subversive world of weird fiction. We will be reading a mixture of genre staples from supernatural stalwarts like Edgar Allan Poe and M.R. James to the more contemporary contributions of Sayaka Murata and Julia Armfield.

For July, we’ll discuss novel Annihilation (2014) by Jeff VanderMeer. The first book in the Southern Reach series, this Nebula Award-winning novel is a masterclass in atmosphere and pacing, as a group of four women embark on a dangerous expedition into the chilling Area X. Now a major motion picture, written and directed by Alex Garland and starring Natalie Portman and Oscar Isaac.
