BROWN WIMPENNY
Brown Wimpenny are an 11-piece folk ensemble based in south Manchester. Celebrated by The Quietus for the “energy, eccentricity, communion and joy” inherent to their raucous and powerful live shows, they weave traditional reels, hornpipes and songs from the British Isles and beyond into a web of drones, dense textures and choral harmonies.
Although formal releases are still in the works, Brown Wimpenny's unique sound packed out audiences at 2024’s Green Man Festival, Cambridge Folk Festival and Northgate Folk Festival. With five sold-out headline shows in Manchester, Brown Wimpenny have performed at renowned venues like Factory International and Moth Club, supported Andy Irvine and sold out the Broadside Hacks' famous Folk Club.
While all being involved in various classical, experimental, contemporary noise, post-punk, and electronic projects, these young musicians have converged on traditional music for its beauty and possibility.
SAM GRASSIE
Sam Grassie is a Scottish fingerstyle guitarist and songwriter, gaining a reputation on the circuit for masterful guitar playing, raw songwriting & dynamic sets that traverse traditional folk, acoustic blues and American primitive. Debut album “Where Two Hawks Fly” (released on scene leading label Broadside Hacks) has been championed by BBC 2,3,6 Scotland and has led to tours with Ryley Walker, Daisy Rickman & Gwenifer Raymond and US Tour with Liam Grant. Grassie is well known on the London scene, his unique guitar style finding him collaborating with singers such as Iona Zajac (Pogues), Mataio A. Dean (Shovel Dance) & Katy J Pearson. His debut album has been described as “remarkbly assured” KLOF WFMU “virtuousic pickin’”, Quietus “timeless presence” Guardian “Jansch’s ghost floats majestically” CLASH “Ferocious individuality” MOJO “meditative transporter”. Grassie music is fuelled by raw emotion, that is translated through his unique blend of 60’s folk and blues He has since shared stages with Jaqui Mcshee, Ralph Mctell & Robert Plant
MYER U CLARK
Bristol-based songwriter Myer U Clark makes music that drifts between the familiar and the uncanny, where folk melodies bend under the weight of strange chords and instinct takes precedence over expectation. With a new album that leans into disorientation, dense arrangements and an almost subconscious approach to songwriting, Clark is carving out a space that feels both deeply personal and quietly expansive.
