Innovative Management of the Broads Landscape in an Era of Climate Warming and Sea-Level RiseA Lecture by Andrea Kelly, Environmental Policy Adviser, Broads Authority. Organised by The Broads Society in association with Norfolk & Norwich Naturalists’ Society
Andrea Kelly has been grappling with environmental management in the Broads for more than 25 years, but the challenges have never been as significant as they are today. With heavy rainfall in winter, drought in the summer months and rising sea levels locking and salinising the tidal rivers, innovative approaches to Broads landscape management are essential.
There is also the broader picture, with the need to conserve the region’s peat deposits for their treasure of locked carbon. If allowed to convert to carbon dioxide, they would add significantly to climate warming.
Following an introduction to the challenges brought to our attention by the Broadland Futures Initiative, Andrea will introduce techniques for wet agriculture, known as paludiculture, tackle the challenges of nature recovery, and describe some of the exciting and ground-breaking projects being done right here on our doorstep.
Tickets Broads Society Members £2.50, non members £5.00
