About this Event
This year we are opening up the floor and inviting local trailblazers to share some of their knowledge and skills with us! To kick off the year, we'll be joined by local artist, poet and witch Sammy Paloma, who will give a practical introduction to divination and ritual spellwork for getting unstuck from creative/energetic blocks.
As well as this, there will be time for us to introduce ourselves to each other, and share any ideas, challenges and updates we've had in the past two months.
Looking forward to seeing you!
About Sammy: Sammy Paloma is an artist, poet & witch (working with European folk magic traditions) living in Bristol, UK. She sometimes paints guts, sometimes tattoos, and sometimes writes poetry. Her work is into listening to faeries, devotion, grief rituals, trans stuff, and necromancy. Her book length poem about Bigfoot, There's Always Things Falling Out The Sky, a collaboration with Roxy Topia & Paddy Gould was published in 2021 by Pink Sands Studio. From 2014-19 her and Tom Prater co-edited the artist-led journal, Doggerland. She is currently writing a choose your own adventure book.
Price: Free (booking required). If you are unable to attend for any reason please let us know as far as possible in advance.
Access info: Watershed is an accessible venue with lift access to the first floor where the meetup will take place. There are gender neutral toilets available on the way to the meeting space. If you have specific access requirements for the session please let us know in the access box whilst booking. You can find full venue access information on Watershed’s website here.
Trauma informed space: We want this space to be accessible and to feel safe for everyone, you can leave at any time and there's no need for to explain. There is a quiet place near the meeting room which we can take you to if you need a break or time alone. We'll mainly be talking about creative practice but lived experience is often intrinsically linked to this, so if you’re sharing any personal information which could be triggering for others, we just ask that you do so with care and sensitivity towards other people in the space.
Covid info: This session is for up to 15 people with social distancing. Attendance is conditional on a negative lateral flow test taken less than 48hrs before arriving. Masks are required when travelling through the building and entering the meeting space and are encouraged but optional once seated. The meeting room is spacious with ventilation and large windows which we will keep open as much as we can.
About the organiser: This meetup is organised by Thorny, supporting queer arts and community in the South West since 2015. Supported by Bristol + Bath Creative R+D, with special thanks to Watershed for hosting us.
