About this Event

Join us for the first Bristol Hub for Gambling Harms Research International Interdisciplinary Colloquium.

This one-day conference will showcase gambling harms research; feature keynotes from government, lived experience and research experts from around the world; invite all participants to discuss ways of tackling gambling harms across disciplinary, practice and international boundaries; and enable rich networking.

The theme is “Building capacity in gambling harms research”, with keynotes and panel sessions reflecting the four Research Challenges of the Hub:

  • Perceptions, Motivations, Decisions. What initiates harmful gambling?
  • Narratives, Practice, Representation. What is the everyday practice and portrayal of gambling in social groups?
  • Experience, Risk, Harm. What social and spatial inequalities exacerbate gambling harms?
  • Innovation, Transition, Change. What socio-technical innovations can help combat gambling harms?

The event will be held at the M Shed, located on the harbourside in Bristol, a short walk from the city centre and Bristol Temple Meads train station.

About the Bristol Hub for Gambling Harms Research

Established in July 2022, funded by a grant awarded by GambleAware, the Bristol Hub for Gambling Harms Research is an independent hub created to build capacity in cutting-edge gambling harms research. The Hub benefits from the active involvement of researchers from all six faculties of the University of Bristol, bringing new disciplines into gambling research such as complexity science, criminology and computer-human interactions.
