About this Event

The walk

On this journey, we will travel through Bristol’s geological past and connect the rocks beneath our feet and in the building around to the history of Bristol. Starting at the Clifton Suspension Bridge, we take in fabulous views of the Avon Gorge and the Bridge and learn about the geological foundations of the city. Spotting fossils along the way, we will end at Clifton Observatory with a spectacular view over the city.

This is an accessible version of the walk for people with reduced mobility. There is also a longer two-hour Bristol from the Bridge tour which also takes in the Harbourside and Clifton.

Poor Weather & Cancellation/Postponing the walk

Steps in Stone aims to offer walks throughout the year. If the weather is too poor for the event to be run safely or enjoyably, we may unfortunately need to cancel the event. We aim to confirm cancellation of an event 24-48 hours in advance.

Steps in Stone

Steps in Stone runs regular geology and history walks in the city of Bristol. These tours provide a deep time perspective, revealing how millennia of human involvement with the local landscape and geology have shaped the city.

The walks are open to all and require no prior knowledge of the city or geology.
