Speakers

Mr. Weibin Liu

Vice President and Special Assistant to the Chairman of BGI Group. In his role at BGI, Weibin leads international spatial biology and population genomics initiatives, as well as other key Group-level special missions. In addition to his work at BGI, Weibin is also one of the key organizers of the SpatioTemporal Omics Consortium (STOC). Prior to BGI, Weibin was a life science venture capitalist at Kleiner Perkins, and led international corporate development at Kindstar as well as business operations at WuXi NextCODE. Weibin earned both his B.S. in Molecular Biology and M.S. in Biotechnology from the Johns Hopkins University, the oldest research university in the United States.

Mr Liu’s scientific talk will introduce the ground-breaking advancements of STOmics and showcase some of the most exciting applications in spatial genomics.

Dr. Kira Sun

Field Application Scientist supporting BGI spatial omics innovation STOmics in Australia and New Zealand. Dr Sun joined BGI Research as a senior researcher in 2017 after obtaining her Ph.D. of Biotechnology in Ghent University, Belgium. Dr Sun has engaged in the development of novel high-throughput metagenome sequencing technologies and research in taxonomic assignment and functional revealing of diverse microbial samples and has actively contributed to specialised research projects in environment, agriculture, and biodiversity. She has a number of first-author publications in leading scientific journals such as Nature Communications, Plant Biotechnology Journal, and Journal of Fungi.

Dr. Sun's talk will focus on the fast and accessible workflow of Stereo-seq technology including available data analysis tools.
