The Brisbane Jazz Orchestra (BJO) is a 19-piece big band, known for its "impressive dynamism and cohesion, musicianship and execution of exciting repertoire choices” (QBI, Hillstone, St Lucia).
BJO is proud to present a spectacular Sunday afternoon celebrating 100 years of big band music under the skilful musical direction of Rob Anders, featuring 19 stellar Queensland musicians, including award-winning vocalist, Ingrid James. From swing, Brazilian bossa-novas and sambas to Cuban-infused influences, boogaloos, funk, and unique arrangements of songs from the Great American Songbook and classic pop standards from Little River Band, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, 10CC, Roberta Flack, Joni Mitchell, etc., these sumptuous big band's vocal and instrumental arrangements are all about making music to make you feel good!
Let BJO take you on a wild ride through the Age of Big Bands in all their glory from the 1920s right through to 2020s. Featuring the rich tapestry of music and arrangements of Gershwin, Michel Legrand, Paul Desmond, Tommy Dorsey, Glenn Miller, Ray Noble, Stan Kenton, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Maynard Ferguson, Yoko Kanno, Diane Schuur, Dave Cushman, Gordon Goodwin, Todd Harrison, Luke Cuerel, and more...
