About this Event

Bringing the Ngahere Indoors - Raakau Waananga

For many of us, getting to the ngahere isn't always possible. This waananga brings the ngahere to you.

Join Tame Malcolm for a 3-hour immersive raakau workshop where freshly gathered native raakau come directly into the room. You'll have the chance to touch, smell, and taste each species as Tame shares the puuraakau, whakataukii, seasonal knowledge, and practical uses woven into every one.

What to expect:

  • 10–15 native raakau species, brought in fresh from the ngahere
  • Practical demonstrations — rongoa, kai, everyday uses and more
  • Koorero and cultural context woven through each raakau
  • Complimentary native leaf tea and light refreshments to close

Come ready to engage, ask questions, and leave with a deeper relationship with the plants that have always been here.

Suitable for all levels — no prior knowledge needed
This workshop is supported by Te Atatū Community hub (Auckland council).
