About this Event

Walk Starts: Outside Theatre Royal Haymarket, Haymarket, SW1Y 4HT

Walk Ends: Piccadilly

With a 45 minute stop for lunch/coffee halfway at St James' Park cafe where there is also a baby change.

'Bring Your Baby' Guided London Walks are sensitively devised to suit parents and carers of even the tiniest babies to enjoy London’s history. We can stop whenever you like to feed and change - without the stress of feeling you are holding up the group. Because every participant brings their baby, patience and baby’s needs are at the forefront of each walk.

You are welcome to bring friends and family who do not also have a baby.

Takes place around St. James's in Central London, where you'll see and hear about:

- St James's Palace, home to Queen Charlotte and her coming-out audiences for debutantes. This is where in Bridgerton Daphne and many more society ladies are scutininised by the Queen in the hope of becoming her favourite! It's where Lady Whistledown first notices the Queen's interest in Daphne, and so her writing begins.

- The church on Piccadilly used to film Anthony Bridgerton and Kate Sharma's wedding.

- Gentlemen's clubs featured in Sense & Sensibility and Bridgerton.

- Lancaster House, the filming location for Queen Charlotte's palace rooms in Bridgerton.

- The oldest shopping arcade in Britain, contemporary to Jane Austen and the Bridgerton Regency period.

- The site of Almack's, location of society balls and marriage marts.

- Probably an inspiration for La Modiste in Bridgerton, where on Pall Mall you would have found the 18th-century Harding Howell & Company's department store, selling fur and fans, fabric for dresses, haberdashery, jewellery and clocks, perfume and millinery, and considered to be a forerunner of the modern department store.

- Galleries Jane Austen visited to view portraits as inspiration for characters.

- Where Anthony Bridgerton's girlfriend in Season 1 may have performed as an opera singer.

- A hidden courtyard once home to notorious gambling 'hells' where wealthy men lost their millions, like Lord Featherington in Bridgerton.

- Locations visited and lived in by the original dandy and 'Leader of Fashion' Beau Brummell (inspiration for many of the Bridgerton men's outfits), and 'mad, bad and dangerous to know' Lord Byron.

- Original shops frequented by Jane Austen, Lord Byron, the Prince Regent, Lord Nelson & Emma Hamilton and the Duke of Wellington. Undoubtedly where the Bridgerton boys bought their boots!

- St James' Park and Green Park, popular Royal parks to see and be seen while promenading in Regency times.

- The site of The Prince Regent's ostentatious Carlton House, where Jane Austen visited the future King George IV.

Babies and toddlers will love looking up at buildings, so this is also a great sensory experience.

If on the day of the walk we are forecast to have very bad weather, I may have to postpone the walk. If it's a bit of light rain we will cope!

Every walk follows the usual health and safety guidelines, such as crossing at traffic lights where possible and having hazards pointed out to you at the start and along the route.

There may be times we have to stand in direct sunlight (although I will always choose shade where possible). Please bring all the necessary sun protection for yourself and your child.

It is recommended you bring appropriate drinks and snacks for the duration of the walk, especially if the walk takes place at lunchtime.

I will contact you with booking confirmation after you book. I will supply my mobile number in case of emergencies or in case you are running late. I will also ask you to provide me with a mobile number so you can be contacted for the purposes of the walk, but this is *not for marketing purposes*. Please note that if you are more than a few minutes late I may ask you to catch up with us.

If you like the look of any of my walks, but would prefer to book me privately, please make enquiries at [email protected]. This may particularly be the case if you have people interested who do not have babies.

Important notes about booking:

- Please feel free to invite baby-free friends.

- Children are the responsibility of the parent or guardian, and must be monitored by them at all times.
