Meet the Brilliant Babies!

IVAN JULIAN is a founding member of Richard Hell and The Voidoids; the architects of Punk Rock

and No Wave.

NICHOLAS TREMULIS, Dubbed “The Musical Mayor of Chicago”, has played in nearly every genre of music the world has to offer, releasing nine albums over the years.

Julian stepped up to form and front The Outsets, a beloved fixture on New York’s

burgeoning club scene, winning considerable critical acclaim for their self-titled debut record,

produced by Garland Jeffreys.

Tremulis was signed to Island records in the mid to late 80’s, making two albums with his 13

piece band, the 2 nd of which, “More Than the Truth”, with famed producer Rob Fraboni,

featuring Bonnie Raitt on lead guitar and Maceo Parker on saxophone.

Julian’s abilities as a collaborator have become sought after by a wide array of acts. He plays on

“The Call Up” and “Ivan Meets GI Joe” with The Clash and collaborated with Afrika Bambaataa

and Bernie Worrell of Parliament/Funkadelic. He joined England’s Shriekback for two tours of

North America and Europe and the 90s found him touring and recording with Matthew Sweet.

Tremulis has played and recorded with a variety artists such as Keith Richards, Billy

Corgan, David Amran, Marianne Faithful, Kurt Elling, Kahil El Zabar, David Johansen,

Ronnie Spector, Hubert Sumlin, Mavis Staples, Ivan Neville, Rick Danko and Billy Cox.

In the ‘90’s, A mutual friend of Nick and Ivan’s, Stephen Smith, helped finance a

recording session of songs from Ivan’s unreleased demos, providing he fly to Chicago

and work with Nick, his rhythm section and longtime bandmate/ co-producer, Rick

Barnes, at Rax Trax Recording. A session dubbed by bassist Derek Brand as, “The Clash

of the Titans recordings”.

“I thought I was being lovely.” says Nick

Ivan described it as, “Like working with a very sweet and kind Charles Manson.”

This cemented an unbreakable friendship and collaboration that continues to this day.

You can hear them together, along with Alejandro Escovedo and Linda Pitmon

in their super group, The Fauntleroys. The EP “Below The Pink Pony” (Plowboy

Records) recorded at Ivan’s SuperGirrafeSound studio.

Ivan Julian’s latest album “Swing Your Lanterns” (Pravda Records) is a travelog across

the rocky expanse of life, love, and the pursuit of artistry.
