Agenda
🕑: 01:00 PM - 01:30 PM
Listening to Housing distress
Host: Dr Nikita Simpson and Liz Storer
Info: Dr Simpson is a Lecturer in Anthropology at SOAS, University of London. She researches, develops interventions, and provides policy advisory on mental health and inequality in India, Southern Africa, and the UK. Dr Storer is a health geographer at Queen Mary University of London whose work focuses on overlooked forms of care and the politics of health inequalities. Their research explores how communities respond to state neglect, how health crises are defined, and how power shapes health policy.
🕑: 01:30 PM - 02:00 PM
ADHD and Homelessness
Host: Lucy Hartland-Grant
Info: This presentation will share findings from a systematic review and meta-analysis exploring ADHD prevalence across populations experiencing severe and multiple disadvantage, including homelessness. The findings indicate substantially elevated rates of ADHD compared to the general population, alongside important variation depending on subgroup and diagnostic approach. The session will focus on what these findings mean in practice, particularly in relation to trauma-informed and psychologically informed approaches within homelessness services. It will explore how unmet neurodevelopmental needs may impact engagement with services, substance use, and pathways into and out of homelessness. I will also reflect on implications for service design, workforce development, and opportunities for earlier identification and more integrated support across health and housing systems.
🕑: 02:00 PM - 03:30 PM
A dynamic Panel/lightning talks from the Sanctuary of Health Justice Scholars
Host: The Sanctuary of Health Justice Scholars
Info: The Sanctuary for Health Justice, based at the Institute of Development Studies in Brighton, UK, will provide a welcoming environment for health equity scholars who are currently facing existential threats in the United States.
The Sanctuary will offer a reflective, reparative and restorative space where participants can build new coalitions, skills and solidarity with other health equity scholars. They will be in continuous engagement with their fellow cohort members (seven each year) during their period of residency at IDS, while also in dialogue with health equity scholars and activists that span the breadth of IDS’ extensive global and UK-based networks and collaborative research partnerships
🕑: 03:30 PM - 04:00 PM
Network with the Brighton and Hove Homlessness Research Network
Host: B&H Homelessness Research Network
Info: The Brighton and Hove Homelessness Research Network is a collaborative forum that brings together researchers, academics, local authorities, charities, service providers and people with lived experience to share knowledge and improve responses to homelessness in the city. It aims to connect academic research with frontline practice, fostering partnerships and dialogue that support more effective, evidence-informed policies and services. Through events, discussions, and joint initiatives, the network creates a space to explore key issues such as housing insecurity, health inequalities, and support systems, helping to shape more coordinated and locally relevant approaches to homelessness.
