“Bright Spots” 17 October 2024, 9:30am -4pm, Holiday Inn, Cardiff

Dear Colleagues,

Following the success of last year’s event, we invite you to join us to celebrate the great work going on in infant feeding across Wales and to help inform the work we are doing on refreshment of the All Wales Breastfeeding Action Plan (AWBAP).

Refresh of the AWBAP

We have been tasked by Welsh Government to develop evidence based recommendations for action on infant feeding, encompassing the First 1000 Days, which Government can use to inform the development of future Welsh Government Action Plans in relation to infant feeding. During the Bright Spots event we will hold interactive workshops to support development of actionable outcomes informed by the expert knowledge of delegates.

Bringing teams together

This event will further support creation and maintenance of strong working relationships within and between public health, infant feeding teams and other early years professionals. Following feedback on last year’s event we aim to provide more time for informal conversations and networking.

Sharing good practice and innovation

We invite each health board to present on recent and ongoing infant feeding and early years nutrition work during a 15-20 minute timeslot. We are particularly keen to hear about:

• Collaborative projects across disciplines;

• Quality Improvement initiatives and outcomes;

• Innovative practices in Wales;

• Evidence of success through quantitative or qualitative data;

• Research projects with implications for practice.

Each local team may divide their time slot as they wish and include colleagues such as universities, childcare and Flying Start teams. We will share further details around timing closer to the event. We also invite poster presentations for any specific projects; posters will be displayed on the day and circulated to delegates.

If you have any questions please contact Rachel Evans: [email protected] or Varsha Nagaraj: [email protected].

Tea, coffee and lunch will be provided. We understand that it is not easy for all teams to get to events in Cardiff and we will ensure that key sessions take place in the middle of the day. We would like all teams to be represented; if there are barriers to attendance for your team, please do contact us.

We very much look forward to seeing you all!
