About this Event
Over the years there have been many initiatives aimed at tackling racial disparities in employment affecting the diverse communities of Birmingham. So how successful have they been?
One clue that there is more to do, was the launch of the West Midlands Combined Authority’s Race Equalities Taskforce. It cited that unemployment rates among ethnic minority groups were more than double that of white groups, at 11% compared to 5%.
Latest figures also show since the Covid-19 Pandemic nationally Black youth unemployment is running at 40%. What's the picture in Birmingham post-Commonwealth Games?
So, when it comes to Employment and Race Equality - what is the full picture in Birmingham? Where does accountability lie? What’s working and what more can we do?
BRIG have invited Birmingham City Council, West Midlands Combined Authority, Birmingham and Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership and the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) to piece together the City's employment / unemployment full picture.
Come along and hear from Birmingham’s key agencies and contribute your ideas to help shift the dial.
