About this Event
Focused Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (FACT) is the use of ACT as a brief intervention, and has been found to be effective in a range of contexts. Developed by Strosahl and Robinson, it moves away from a one-hour session protocol, and works on the principle that you may only have one session with a client, and that that session may only last 5 minutes.
This makes FACT exceptionally useful for sport and exercise psychologists, as it is very rare for sport and exercise psychologists to have a full hour to work with a client. Typically, work is delivered at the side of the pitch, walking to the changing rooms, or in the gym. FACT is tailored to the realities of applied work in sport and exercise psychology.
In order to benefit from this course you should have a solid grounding and knowledge of the basics of ACT, such as: understanding functional contextualism and relational frame theory, and the hexaflex. If this is not you, then please consider enrolling on the introductory course first.
The course is designed to cover the seven-step process of FACT, such that by the end of the course, attendees should be able to deliver a 10 minute FACT session.
This workshop is aimed at trainee and qualified sport and exercise psychologists wanting to get to grips with ACT in a sport-specific context, and who wish to develop their knowledge and skills.
The course is delivered by experts in ACT and its application in sport, with many years of applied practice within elite sport and exercise contexts.
This is a unique and highly interactive course that enables participants to both observe and practice in real-time with the guidance of the expert practitioners. Places are limited so that attendees receive the time, space, and attention of the expert practitioners to facilitate their learning.
The course is designed to be open, accessible, and inclusive to create a supportive and encouraging learning environment.
