Bridging Apparel and Technology, Part 2

This three-part workshop series explores the cutting-edge world of fashion technology, where creativity and science converge to redefine the future of apparel. This workshop, Evaluating the Feasibility of Mass-Producing Wearable Technology, is geared towards fashion and design professionals, as well as scientists involved in wearable technologies, each session dives deep into key aspects of integrating technology with fashion—from concept development to large-scale production. Through talks that build on each other, participants will learn strategies for designing innovative wearables, the use of digital avatars for virtual fashion workflows, and understanding the practical challenges of scaling wearable technology for the mass market. An informal Q&A with the presenter and time to get to know fellow attendees follows each talk as part of the session.

Following on from Hayley's workshop in part 1 of this series, where she discussed integrating the design of wearables into garments; Ronald will address the practical challenges and considerations when bringing wearable technology to the mass market. Topics will include manufacturing processes, quality assurance, supply chain logistics, and regulatory requirements. Ronald will also discuss scalability issues, cost considerations, and best practices for transitioning from small-batch prototypes to large-scale production without compromising on quality or innovation.

Ronald is an apparel technical designer and product developer by trade, leveraging 12 years (and counting) of textile industry experience designing, developing and manufacturing various disciplines of fashion and apparel; ranging from Canadian favourites like Lululemon, Canada Goose, Canadian Tire to cutting-edge, lifesaving medical devices for American healthcare and insurance providers. He draws from his decade-plus of experience and familiarity working with textile mills and apparel factories in Asia, Europe, and Canada, aiming to share his insights in order to expand the wearable tech sector.
