About this Event
The event, organised by Szendvicsbár Community Hub and PLACCC, is part of the Bridges of Soliarity project and an extension of Senses of Safety exhibition at the Yermilov Centre in Kharkiv, Ukraine.
Between September and November 2024 Yermilov Centre in Kharkiv will host the exhibition Sense of Safety which is set against the backdrop of the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine and the relentless bombardments of Kharkiv. Yermilov Centre turned out to be one of the safest places in the city and occasionally serving as a shelter, the exhibition delves into the notion of safety amidst impending disaster and profound discomfort. Sense of Safety expands the conversation to an array of cultural organizations and artists across Europe, establishing a network of solidarity and shared experiences that underscore the deceptive nature of safety amidst crises.
Szendvicsbár Community Hub and PLACCC join the open network of cross-institutional events, called the Bridges of Solidarity:
On 17th November, the day of the finissage of the exhibition Sense of Safety in Ukraine, we organise an event which is an act of active solidarity, an extension of their programme, building a bridge between the two spaces and placing new weightpoints on the map - we feel together, because no one can be free until we are collectively free.
We wanted to find gestures beyond amplification of their voice, so we will complement the programme with involvement of local artists. Along with the screening of the films by Ukranian makers, we'll feature a screening of the work of an Iranian filmmaker living in Budapest.
The screenings will be accompanied by offering foods from Ukraine and Iran, and we encourage you, to bring food that represents safety for you.
