Bridge Road Barbell’s Strongman League
In 2022, Bridge Road Barbell will be hosting our very own Strongman League. This will consist of a series of three heats/qualifiers across the year and a final in the winter.
Proposed dates (all Saturdays)
Feb 26th
May 14th
August 27th
November 26th (final, must have qualified)
Each comp will have a selection of different events and the events for each comp will only be announced after the previous comp has happened.
Early Bird Price:
If you sign up for the full league, so all 3 qualifiers and a final (provided you qualify) then it will cost £100.
Standard entry fees:
If NOT opting for signing up to the Early Bird Price for the full league then the price will be £35 per competition (including same charge for the final)

Placing and points for each competition :
For each individual competition, placing will be based on accumulated points across the events. The overall winner of each competition will be awarded 10 points, 2nd place will receive 9 points, 3rd place 8 points etc.

Qualification for the Final:
If you enter the full strongman league (the early bird special price) and attend and compete at each qualifier, then you get automatic entry to the final. (Attendance bonus)
If you miss the early bird special (for the full league) then you must accumulate a minimum of 10 points across the qualifiers to get entry for the final.
If not taking advantage of the attendance bonus, then you do not HAVE to enter all the qualifiers. For example, one lifter might only enter one qualifier and win and they would have the sufficient points to get to the final. Another might accumulate lower points per competition but attend all 3 competitions and still make enough points up to get to the final.


Included with entry:
You’ll get a comp Tshirt to wear to the competitions (if the tshirts get damaged or lost more will be available to buy at cost price).
There will be trophies or medals for the qualifiers and some special custom made trophies for the overall winners for each category of the final.

Categories
We will have 2 women’s categories and 3 men’s categories.
Women’s Level 1
Women’s Level 2
Men’s Level 1
Men’s Level 2
Men’s Level 3

The higher the level of category the heavier and tougher the events will be. We’ve chosen to use a tiered level system rather than the standard ‘novice’ , ‘intermediate’ and ‘open’ categories because those categories come with an invariable level of confusion as to what standard constitutes each category.
If you have any doubt which category is most appropriate we will advise. No 'trophy hunters' entering a category well below their ability level please!
Events for the second comp
1. Axle Clean and Press Max (rising bar)
Rules.
- Arms and legs must be locked out before down command can be given for lift to count.
- Must be stationary at the top (not wobbling around or staggering) before you will get the down command.
- Two-stage belt/belly cleans will be allowed.
- Straps will not be allowed.
- Wrist wraps, elbow and knee sleeves plus a belt all allowed. No elbow wraps though.
- You may use a mixed or double over hand grip when bringing the weight off the floor for the initial stage of the clean.
- Other rules / details tbc.
- no preset weights as its rising bar so all flights will run through together.

2. 18” Apollon Wheel axle deadlift for reps
Rules:
1. Deadlift must be locked out fully at top before down command can be given for each rep. This means legs and hips locked together and shoulders back behind the bar.
2. Slight hitching is acceptable but no supporting the bar on the thighs and jerking the weight up the legs.
3. Lifters must wait for a down command before they lower the bar for the next rep.
4. Lifters will get 60 seconds to perform as many reps as possible. For a rep to count the down command must be given within the time limit.
5. Straps are allowed (regular or figure of 8's) but the fingers must still be around the bar.
6. Belts are allowed.
7. NO deadlift suits.
Weights.
Womens 1 - 120kg
Womens 2 - 150kg
Mens 1 - 200kg
Mens 2 - 245kg
Mens 3 - 300kg
3. Zercher (cambered bar) carry into Farmers walk (15m carry for each)
Rules.
1. No sliding the farmers handles along the floor.
2. The zercher will be done with a giant cambered bar and pick up will be from the floor.
3. Carry must be taken completely across the line and lowered down (not dropped).
4. The farmers walk handles need only break the line.
5. Event will be scored on fastest time, but furthest distance travelled will decide between anyone who does not manage to complete the course.

Weights.
Womens 1 - 90kg into 60kg per hand
Womens 2 - 110kg into 75kg per hand
Mens 1 - 130kg into 100kg per hand
Mens 2 - 165kg into 120kg per hand
Mens 3 - 180kg into 140kg per hand

4. Hercules hold
Rules.
Once start command is given and weights are released, hold on for as long as you can. Longest time held wins.
Weights.
Womens 1 - 50 per hand
Womens 2 - 70 per hand
Mens 1 - 90 per hand
Mens 2 - 110 per hand
Mens 3 - 125 per hand

5. Atlas stone over yoke (reps in a minute)
Rules.
1. No tacky allowed.
2. Tape or sleeves on forearms allowed.
3. Belt allowed (if preferred)
4. Knee and elbow sleeves allowed.
5. Chalk allowed and encouraged.
6. Perform as many reps in a minute. Any reps not clearly over the crossbar in the minute will not count.
Womens 1 - 50kg stone
Womens 2 - 70kg stone
Mens 1 - 90kg stone
Mens 2 - 105kg stone
Mens 3 - 135kg stone

When and how can you sign up?
Entry for the ‘Early Bird Special’ for the full league will open on Monday 8th November and will close on the 12th December.
After this time, we will only be taking entries at the ‘pay per Comp’ rate of £35 per competition. Please note if you want to enter but aren’t signing up for the full league, then you will only be able to enter from the 13th December.
