Brick by Brick: Understanding Historic Preservation
About this Event
Ever wondered what historic preservation actually means for your building? Join us for a practical, myth-busting overview of Historic Preservation presented by the Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation (DAHP).
Tuesday, June 9
?Bright City Church?

In this discussion, we’ll unpack some of the most common misconceptions about preservation and what it really looks like in practice today. We’ll also take a high-level look at the financial incentives available to support preservation projects, including funding tools that can make rehabilitation and reuse more feasible than many people realize. Finally, we’ll touch on some of the practical basics of caring for historic buildings from everyday maintenance considerations to why seemingly small choices, like the wrong type of paint, can have unintended impacts on materials like brick.
Most importantly, you’ll have the chance to meet your local DAHP representative, Michelle Thompson! This is a great opportunity to put a friendly face to the agency, ask questions, and better understand who to reach out to when you’re navigating your next project, whether it’s big, small, or still just an idea.
As a Washington’s Main Street organization, the Downtown Everett Association is committed to supporting preservation-based economic development and helping connect local property owners with valuable resources and expertise.
