Brian Recker, M.Div., is a public theologian, author, speaker, and former evangelical pastor whose work explores faith, deconstruction, inclusion, and a Christianity centered on love rather than fear. The son of a Baptist preacher, Recker grew up in fundamentalist Christianity, attended Bob Jones University, and later spent eight years as an evangelical pastor.
After leaving evangelical ministry and reexamining many of the beliefs he had inherited, Recker began publicly sharing his evolving theology and advocating for a more inclusive approach to Christian spirituality. He writes the Substack Beloved and has built a large social-media following discussing subjects including hell, biblical interpretation, religious deconstruction, LGBTQ+ inclusion, and the idea of following Jesus without fear-based theology.
Recker is the author of Hell Bent: How the Fear of Hell Holds Christians Back from a Spirituality of Love, published in 2025. The book challenges traditional Christian teachings about eternal punishment and argues for understanding Christianity through the lens of radical, inclusive love.
