Brewing Up Diversity: A Beer Tasting and Panel Discussion

Want to increase your brewery's ability to reach diverse audiences? Want to learn more about the unique history of immigrant-founded breweries in Roxbury? Want to meet some great Massachusetts-based brewers who are already leading the charge to make the craft beer space more inclusive? At Brewing Up Diversity, we'll have all that and more!

Join Black Brew Dialogues and the Mass Brewers Guild at the Shirley-Eustis House in Roxbury on Saturday, May 11 for a beer tasting and panel discussion on not only current efforts and inroads to increasing diversity in the brewery space, but also on the history of breweries in the Boston area and their roots in 19th century immigration and ingenuity. Our speakers will include:

• Beer historian Dr. Malcolm Purinton, panel moderator
• Brewer Armando DeDona, Long Live Beerworks
• Founder, Co-Owner, and Head Brewer Luis Espinoza, Roundhead Brewing
• Owner, Co-founder, and Brewer Sarah Real, Hot Plate Brewing Co.

The event runs from 3pm-5:30pm and will feature a Q&A discussion with our brewers, bookended at the beginning and end by an opportunity to sample beers from each of the featured breweries! Light snacks and refreshments will also be provided.

About the event organizers:

is a travel show for craft brew lovers with a big takeaway. Follow host Collin Knight as he travels the state and gets a behind the curtain, VIP tour, of some of the state’s most popular breweries.
Learn alongside him as watches the brewing process in full swing, hears their start-up story, meets the owners and brewers, and then has a candid conversation over a beer about that brewery’s diversity & inclusion efforts.

is the state’s non-profit, trade association, that exists to protect and promote the brewing community. They serve as the unified voice on Beacon Hill, advocating for breweries at the legislative level. They currently have two legislative priorities that they are fighting for - achieving self-distribution rights for our Brewpub license holders and working to gain retail privileges for our state’s breweries at Farmers Markets. They provide free resources and educational opportunities to ensure that MA breweries have everything they need to remain successful, independent, small businesses that employ locals and revitalize downtown communities. They also serve as central command for questions, advice, and networking to help our brewing family stay connected and informed, and highlight MBG member breweries through regular social media and marketing articles, blogs and interviews to showcase and promote #MassMadeBeer.

exists to preserve, maintain and interpret the Shirley-Eustis House and grounds as a museum for the education and enjoyment of the public. The Association seeks to engage the broadest community in understanding the role of Shirley Place, since its construction as a Royal Governor’s mansion in 1747, as it reflects the beginning of our nation and the history of Roxbury and Boston. Central interpretive topics include the impact of British colonialism on our modern American society, 19th century immigration stories, and the history of Roxbury and Dorchester.
