Brett Stafford Smith is a country, acoustic and Southern rock singer-songwriter originally from Dothan, Alabama. He began playing guitar around age 15 after discovering an old Fender acoustic guitar in his stepfather's closet. That led quickly to songwriting and performing in bands throughout high school.
His music eventually earned him a college music scholarship playing in a jazz band, while he continued writing, recording and performing in local clubs. After college, Smith spent several years performing throughout the Southeast before leaving his conventional job and moving to Nashville to pursue music full time.
In Nashville, he became a working musician on the Broadway circuit, performing at venues including Tootsie's, Honky Tonk Central, The Listening Room, Tin Roof, Whiskey Jam, Rippy's and Luke Bryan's bar, while continuing to write original material. His touring has taken him across much of the eastern United States.
Smith has released several original country recordings, including "Buddy With a Boat" (2020), "B.Y.O.B. Weekend Party" (2020), "Shoulda Married You" (2021) and the three-song Concrete EP (2022).
More recently, he's returned to his Wiregrass roots. In 2025 he helped launch the first Dothan Songwriter's Festival, providing a showcase for regional songwriters. He's also actively performing around 30A/WaterColor in 2026, including multiple scheduled appearances at the WaterColor Beach Club.
