Dalhousie Medicine New Brunswick (DMNB) is proud to present the first Breakthrough Breakfast in Saint John. This popular Faculty of Medicine event is designed to celebrate groundbreaking research and medical innovation happening right here in our own backyard.
DMNB researchers are solving the health challenges affecting people in our region and beyond. Medical research changes and saves lives. Not only can it provide faster diagnoses, better treatments, and enhanced quality of life, but research also influences the health, wellness, and economic prosperity of our communities.
This event is designed to showcase the research excellence at Dalhousie Medicine New Brunswick and will feature researchers from some of DMNB’s most significant areas of focus, which include cardiovascular research, cancer, population health, social medicine, and emergency and primary care. Our speakers include Drs. Paul Atkinson, Keith Brunt, Duncan Webster, and DMNB PhD candidate Tori Nelson.
Breakthrough Breakfast: Research Excellence at Dalhousie Medicine New Brunswick will take place on December 2nd from 7:30-9:00 a.m. at the Delta Saint John.
Speakers
Dr. Paul Atkinson Assistant Dean, Research, DMNB: presenting his latest Emergency Medicine research that can lead to improved health systems and better patient outcomes
Dr. Keith Brunt Associate Professor, Pharmacology: presenting their latest research to help us Live healthy and happy to 100 by understanding the building blocks of aging well & translating innovation to practices that transform the patient experience.
Dr. Duncan Webster Associate Professor, Infectious Diseases: presenting on his latest research on Glycosylation, the process where carbohydrates are attached to proteins or lipids in a biological way. Glycosylation research helps us understand diseases of particular interest to public health and is fundamental to new drug development.
Tori Nelson PhD Candidate, Department of Pharmacology: presenting her research focused on Advancing our understanding of heart failure progression and the protective mechanisms of guideline-directed medical therapies, ultimately informing the development of novel strategies to prevent and delay the onset of cardiac disease.
The Breakthrough Breakfast Series
Designed to celebrate groundbreaking research and medical innovation, the Breakthrough Breakfast Series will showcase a different area of medical discovery, featuring esteemed researchers at the forefront of their fields.From Cardiac research to Cancer, Immunity and Vaccinology, Family Medicine, Neurosciences & Brain Diseases (including mental health and Alzheimer's disease), to Healthy Aging and Frailty, the series spans a diverse spectrum of crucial medical topics. Each event will include researchers, graduate students, patients, or community members who have contributed to or benefited from this research.
