About this Event

Join us for a panel discussion to celebrate the launch of Snowflake: Breaking Through Mental Health Stereotypes and Stigma by Lucy Nichol (Foreword by Sue Baker OBE)

Ever been called a 'snowflake' for sharing your emotions?

Or told to 'man up' when you're struggling?

Labelled a 'skiver' for taking a mental health day?

Misconceptions and negativity surrounding mental health are still alive and well (and breeding).

In this stigma-busting book Lucy Nichol exposes 10 of the most harmful mental health stereotypes. She examines where they come from and how they are perpetuated, exploring the impact of social media, the power of the press and how mental health is represented in popular culture.

With the help of experts and the voices of those affected by these harmful perspectives, Lucy proposes how we can dismantle stigma once and for all.

Lucy Nichol is a writer, journalist and mental health advocate originally from Hull, now living in the North East. Her first book, A Series of Unfortunate Stereotypes: Naming and Shaming Mental Health Stigmas, explored her own mental health through a sophisticated and humorous lens. She has also published two novels, The Twenty Seven Club and Park Life, packed with 90s nostalgia and heavily influenced by her love of music. Snowflake marks her return to non-fiction.

Lucy will be joined on the panel by Sue Baker, OBE, International Mental Health Consultant, Changing Minds Globally and BBC Radio Newcastle presenter Anna Foster plus others to be announced.
