About this Event
With 15 years of experience in the Russian energy sector, firsthand refinery visits, and recent conversations with executives, Boris Kamchev examines what industry leaders are unwilling to say publicly.
Behind claims of resilience, the latest DeKleptocracy Project’s analysis — where Kamchev is cited as one of the main sources — highlights a more fragile reality: Russia’s refining and chemical industries remain dependent on foreign catalysts, additives, and chemical precursors, increasingly sourced through opaque channels and vulnerable supply routes. As sanctions intensify and global disruptions reshape energy flows, pressure is spreading beyond crude exports into refined products — from diesel and aviation fuel to industrial lubricants.
At the same time, instability around the Strait of Hormuz and escalating tensions involving Iran are creating both risks and opportunities: higher global prices and shifting trade routes may benefit Russian exports in the short term, but also expose deeper logistical vulnerabilities and competition for critical inputs.
In this talk, Boris reveals an industry held together by adaptation and improvisation, where official messaging projects control, but private discussions point to mounting technological constraints, supply risks, and growing uncertainty about long-term sustainability.
Hors d'oeuvres and refreshments will be provided.
RSVP is recommended, and donations welcomed.
